Express Entry 2018 year-end report, done by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)’s, released on July 2.
Express Entry is an online selection system for the Canadian Government to choose the best-skilled worker immigrants from a pool of applicant. The highest-ranking candidates in the pool of Express Entry will be invited to apply for permanent residency.
Skilled economic-class immigration programs managed by the Express Entry which has 3 main subcategories
1- the Federal Skilled Worker Class,
a portion of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Candidates with the highest scores in the Express Entry Pool using a point-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) will be issued an Invitation to Apply.
The IRCC 2018 Express Entry report shows that almost 280,000 Express Entry profiles were submitted and 70 percent of them were eligible to apply for at least one of the Express Entry’s subcategories.
Among that 280,000 profile, 92,000 foreign workers and their families got an invitation to apply and were admitted to Canada last year through Express Entry program, a number that we may see increases in the future because of new immigration policy which will target more qualified applicants for 2019 and 2020 from all over the world. Note that Canada plans to admit 350,000 new permanent residents until 2021
Applications for permanent residence through Express Entry
A grand total of 122,247 applications for permanent residence were sourced through Express Entry in 2018. This number includes principal applicants and their accompanying family members.
Number of Invitation to Apply for each category
- Federal Skilled Worker Class candidates received 47,523 of 89,800 of ITAs
- Federal Skilled Trades Class received only 904 ITAs and
- Canadian Experience Class candidates received 30,571 ITAs
In 2018, Canada has increased the number of admitted application through the three main programs managed by the Express Entry and will increase each year through 2021. Express Entry candidates who were admitted through the PNP in 2018 also made a big role in raising this number.
candidate’s core CRS score
candidate’s core CRS score includes age, proficiency in English and French, education, and work experience. which can give an Express Entry candidate a maximum of 600 points.
An approved provincial nomination is one of the factors that give the opportunity to Express Entry applicants to obtain 600 additional CRS points. This will guarantee an applicant that he or she will get an invitation to apply from IRCC. in 2018 report, 10,802 Express Entry candidates who received ITA, had an approved provincial nomination. Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and British Columbia all saw increases in this category, in comparison to 2017.
Destination in Canada
IRCC also mentioned that 64 percent (78,838) of all admitted applicants for Canadian permanent residence through Express Entry in 2018, chose Ontario, with cities like Toronto and Ottawa, as their destination.
British Columbia with 22,153 applicants placed second, followed by Alberta (8,868), Saskatchewan (3,708) and Nova Scotia (3,532).
Which nationality receives most invitations
Indian citizens with 41,675 ITAs have received 46 percent of all ITAs issued in 2018.
Chinese citizens have the second place with 6,248 ITAs
Express Entry processing times
In 2018, IRCC met the Express Entry processing standard of finalizing 80% of all applications sourced via Express Entry within six months. The processing time was measured from the day a complete application is received by IRCC until the time a final decision is made by an immigration officer.
In Terms of Education
The CIC report shows that 39 percent of the candidates had five years or more of foreign work experience.48 percent of the candidates had a master’s degree and another 42 percent had a post-secondary credential of three years or longer. In the report, 51 percent of the candidates who received an ITA in 2018 were between 20 and 29 years old.
ITAs issued to different occupations
Between all the occupations qualified to apply through this program, software engineering was the most common occupation which received Invitation to apply. This is a 41 percent increase in comparison to the previous year. Some other occupations have received a very high number of invitations in 2018 from Canada through Express Entry Program as well. Displacing Information Systems Analysts and Consultants, Computer programmer remained, financial auditors and administrative assistants are some of the most common occupations which received a high number of ITAs according to the report.
